HOW TO GET VERIFIED AS A SWORN LEO

THE VERIFICATION SYSTEM IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH OR HOSTED BY REDDIT, INC. 

THE REDDIT ADMINS (Reddit Staff) DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO YOUR DATA ASSOCIATED THIS SERVICE.

In order to have flair assigned to your account and to get access to /r/LEO, you must be a sworn law enforcement officer.

If you imply that you are a sworn law enforcement officer (or former, or retired) you will be required to verify your status to participate in this subreddit. You will need to send us an image (all personal information redacted with job title left visible) of your agency-issued credentials with a handwritten note containing your Reddit username and date included somewhere in the picture (why? | example). If you are unable to send an image of your credentials (for example, if you are a federal LEO), read below.

If we banned you pending verification, please include this in your verification submission to have your ban lifted more quickly.

Verification is typically completed within 1 week from date of submission.

BUT SO-AND-SO HAS FLAIR AND THEY'RE NOT A COP!

We used to give flair to anyone who asked. We don't do that anymore, and anyone with flair who is not a LEO has been allowed to keep it. Further requests will be rejected.

FEDERAL LEOs

If you are unable to send a timestamped image of your creds, put a redacted picture of your business card with a timestamp.  You should still register with your agency email.

HOW IS MY DATA SECURED?

When your images are uploaded to our server, they are encrypted in transport from your browser to our server using HTTPS. Once your images are on the server they are encrypted with AES-256 encryption and can only be accessed if the user provides the correct encryption key. Additionally, the server automatically monitors incoming traffic for attacks and blocks them.

Furthermore, the website used for verification is only accessed by sworn, verified law enforcement personnel.
